ICAM Alarms Management Module

The ICAM Alarms Management module provides a full-function alarm processing system for alarm inputs received through devices attached to the ICAM system. Alarm input can come from a variety of sources. The ICAM system can be directed to perform a variety of actions for each transition of an alarm input. The system will allow the transition to be cross-checked against other alarm inputs before performing output actions. Calendars and schedules can be applied to actions to allow different actions to be performed based on the day and time. The alarm manager allows an operator to monitor and take action on alarms via a color CRT.

Alarm inputs may be:

  • Simple two state inputs attached to ICAM peripheral devices. These are the type of inputs most commonly used in alarm systems. Examples of these devices are door contact switches, motion detectors, water level detectors, and keyswitches.
  • Analog inputs attached through an Access 1013 alarm input board. This board allows contacts such as the above devices to not only monitor for open/closed conditions, but also for line cut and line shorted conditions. This also allows for analog inputs such as temperature sensors to be attached to the system.
  • Derived inputs generated by the system based on system conditions. Derived conditions may be reader status (on-line/off-line), door force, door ajar, or the passing of a specific card through a card reader.
Alarm actions taken by the system may be:
  • Open or close (set or reset) an output point. Output points are relays to which enunciation devices such as lights or sirens can be connected.
  • Shunt or unshunt other alarm inputs. When an input is shunted, the system ignores any status changed on that input. This allows a device such as a key switch to be used to shunt inputs such as a set of motion detectors and door contacts.
  • Send a message to an operator console.
  • Send electronic mail.
  • Perform a user written procedure to take action on the alarm.
Incoming alarms will be displayed on the alarm management console based on priority and order received. If a compatible color workstation is used, the alarms will be displayed in color groups. Colors are assigned based on alarm priority. Actions taken from the alarm management console include:
  • Respond to and clear an alarm
  • Add a notation to an alarm
  • Open or close (set or reset) an output point. Output points are relays to which enunciation devices such as lights or sirens can be connected
  • Shunt or unshunt other alarm inputs
  • Select and view alarms from the alarm history log
